He was supposed to lose his job by now but Knowshon Moreno not only has the starting running back position locked but is turning into a top tier fantasy back. Moreno the 12th overall pick in the 2009 draft out of Georgia only average 3.8 yards last season. He was running behind Willis Mcgahee who was released this year and signed by the Cleveland Browns. The Broncos were not convinced that Moreno could lock down the spot and in the 2013 NFL draft they selected Monte Ball in the second round. This selection gave Moreno, and Ronnie Hillman some competition. Ball a running back from Wisconsin averaged 5.6 yards in his four years as a Badger a record for the university.
With training camp going down to the wire Moreno won the job beating out Ball and 2nd year running back Ronnie Hillman. This season Moreno has grabbed most of the carries and has put up major fantasy points. In many leagues Monte Ball and Hillman where selected before Moreno and the former Bulldog is proving fantasy owners wrong by going on a tear. Moreno was a big pickup in week 2 as he rushed for 2 rushing touchdowns and had 93 yards on the ground. Last week Moreno put up 26.0 fantasy points as he had 19 carries for 93 rushing yards and a touchdown, as well as five catches on five targets for 57 receiving yards Sunday against the Cowboys in the scoring extravaganza.
This Sunday I believe will be Moreno’s biggest game yet. Playing the Jacksonville Jaguars who are a 27 point underdog Peyton Manning and company will certainly throw the ball against one of the worst secondary’s in the NFL. Look for Moreno to catches passes in the seams and run all over the Jags this week. With a lead certain to be held the Broncos most likely will run the football to milk the clock, giving Moreno extra fantasy value.
