Michigan Basketball’s 2014 recruiting class is rounding into shape. The Wolverines recently received commitments from Kameron Chatman and DJ Wilson. The next piece of the puzzle revolves around a pair of 5-star shooting guards; James Blackmon Jr (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and Devin Booker (Moss Point, Mississippi).
Blackmon Jr is closing in on a decision and it is believed that Kentucky and Michigan are the frontrunners for his services. A scoring machine, Blackmon Jr is ranked #19 overall by ESPN. As a junior at Fort Wayne Bishop, Blackmon Jr averaged 33.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Edging out Kentucky, where James Blackmon Sr played his college ball, will be a tough pull for Michigan. However, the Wolverines are right there with the Wildcats and could pull off the recruiting coup. Blackmon Jr had been an Indiana commit for three years, but opened things back up and is ready to finalize his decision.
Blackmon Jr has been to Michigan several times, including last year’s Indiana at Michigan game and for a recent official visit. “The Michigan official [visit] went real great. I love the coach staff, and that’s somewhere I’m going to look into playing because it fits my play style, and the teammates there were great, too,” Blackmon told Rivals.com’s Eric Bossi.
He is slated to visit Kentucky for their Big Blue Madness and will certainly get the red carpet treatment there. Blackmon Jr is also considering Indiana, Kansas, and Michigan State.
