Ok folks….I am done reading too much into things in Big Ten football in 2013. There is Ohio State, there may be Michigan State and if they don’t play each other in the Big Ten title game this conference is the worst in the country. I dropped a 2-2 week down on you all and I apologize. My record sticks to the wall this week at 50-9…having gone 7-6 in the last three weeks…time to stop goofin off….let’s look back at the horror if we must.
Michigan State-42 Indiana-28….MISS….It is now official and most Spartan have been squawking about this all year (but don’t they always?)…this is the year for MSU. I think having a freshman QB will ultimately be their undoing, but for now…Connor Cook has been the answer to the question that Mark Dantonio has been asking since Kirk Cousins left. He was 22-31 for 235 and two TD’s. The Spartans now are on cruise control until their mid-November matchup at Nebraska. Taking the Hoosiers last week was one of the more regrettable picks I’ve had in recent memory. I really thought Kevin Wilson would channel the Oklahoma Sooner days and ride the big W over Penn State….guess the Sooner mojo wasn’t working this weekend. Nebraska-44 Purdue-7….CORRECT….now before anyone (especially me) goes and throws the Corn into the upper echelon of the Big Ten or even the Legends Division let me, who by the way has barely been over .500 so far in picking Big Ten games, remind you of something. Nebraska has played Illinois and Purdue…and folks, this Purdue team is the worst in the conference. As far as worst teams in the Big Ten go, this Boilermakers squad is as bad a worst team as I can remember. The sad thing is that Nebraska didn’t really play that well….Martinez didn’t play again, backup QB Tommy Armstorng was just 6 of 18 with three INT’s….the NU faithful are thankful for HB Ameer Abdullah who scored a TD and rushed for 126 yards…but a road W is a road W. Wisconsin-35 Northwestern-6….CORRECT….Odds are folks that the Badgers win out..their toughest game is either at Iowa or the finale at home vs Penn State. This looked an awful lot like Bret Bielema’s Badgers. Stifiling defense holding a pretty explosive Northwestern team to just 241 yards….and a stout rushing attack gaining 286 yards on the ground. I was a little amazed at how much the Wildcats rely on Colter. I thought they would’ve tried to run Siemian more…but the Badger defense knew he was going to pass and they were all over him.
Penn State-43 Michigan-40….MISS….I don’t recall ever seeing a more disappointing overtime session. Talk about total ineptitude….on both sides…both teams missed FG’s, Michigan had a FG blocked, Penn State turned the ball over, Michigan had a pass interference call in the end zone. It was brutal…but a couple of things about this one (when there is much more to be said)…First..I have been telling you about Nittany Lion QB Christian Hackenberg…although it may not appear so now, but he has everything you need to be a superstar QB…great arm, confidence, he even has moxy…when it’s all said, and done if he stays all four years…he will go down as one of the all-time bests in State College….and no, that’s not because he just beat Michigan. Secondly, I have not been a fan of Al Borges since about halfway through his first season here in Ann Arbor….Let’s just say this…he has not climbed my favorite coaches tree very much since then.
