An average night in the National Basketball Association last night has five games were played in all. Of those, a trio of them had former UNC Basketball players in them, which means it is once again time for a “Heels in the Pro’s: NBA Style” recap…
In the first game on the schedule featuring a former Tar Heel it’s the Toronto Raptors hosting the Boston Celtics. The game was played at the Air Canada Centre in front of an attendance of 13,331 and was televised by CSNN. For the visiting team from Canada it’s former National Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough, who comes off the pine for a total of 18 minutes. In that stint the power forward scores six points (1 for 5 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 4 for 6) to go with three boards and a pair of turnovers while having a pts differential of -8. In the end, fending off a late rally by the home squad, it was Toronto winning this one by a duece, taking down Boston by the final of 99 to 97. With the victory the Raptors are 4 and 1 and will be playing once again on 10/21 when they host Raymond Felton and the Knicks.
Next up on the recap it’s the game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Indiana Pacers. The game was played at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 12,735. For the visiting team it should have been a trio of former Carolina players taking lacing it up. However both center Brandan Wright, due to a shoulder injury, and shooting guard Vince Carter, as the coaching staff gave the veteran the night off, were at the game but did not play. Who did play for the franchise from Big D was shooting guard Wayne Ellington, who came off the bench for a total of 19 minutes in all. In that time frame he scored 8 points (2 for 8 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 2 for 2) to go with three rebounds and a TO while having a +8 pts differential. As far as the game went it was Dallas holding off Indiana in the fourth, and winning the game by the final score of 92 to 85. With the W the Mavs are at .500 with a 2 and 2 record and will be in action next when they head to play the Bobcats on 10/19.
And finally, for the last match up of the night, it’s the Portland Trail Blazers taking on the Utah Jazz. The game was televised by FxRM and played at the EnergySolutions Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 19,127. For the home team we should have been able to see small forward Marvin Williams, but he was not even on the bench for the game and reports have him “still a way” from being able to play. In the end, it was the visiting team winning this one, as Portland defeated Utah by seven, with the final tally being 99 to 92. With the loss the Jazz slide to 1 and 3 and will try to get back to winning on 10/20 when they head out to take on the Thunder.
