Yesterday’s NBA schedule was composed of five games in all, of those a pair had a touch of carolina blue, which means it’s once again time for another “Heels in the Pro’s: NBA Style” recap. So, without further interruptions, let’s run down the pair of games from 10/20/13…
The first of the two game is the Memphis Grizzlies heading to The Big Peach to take on the Atlanta Hawks. The game was played at the Philips Arena in front of a crowd that numbered 8,731. For the visiting team it’s big man Ed Davis, who comes off the bench for a total of 26 minutes. In that time frame the power forward came close to having a double double, scoring 14 points (7 for 11 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 0 for 0) to go with eight rebounds, two blocks, a steal and three turnovers while having a pts differential of +14. As far as the game went it was the visiting squad, as Memphis defeated Atlanta by 8, with the final score being 90 to 82. With the victory the Grizzlies are now 4 and 2 (2-1 on the road) and will be back on the court on 10/23 as they head to play the Raptors. Side Note: In the of the pre-season Davis has scored in double digits four times as well as having two double doubles. In those six games the power forward has scored 64 points and grabbed 49 rebounds. It might be hard for the fourth year pro to get these numbers during the season as his minutes will shrink, but if he was to find more minutes Davis could have the best season ever as a pro.
The other game of the night is the one between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The game was played in front of 18,203 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. For the Jazz it should be power forward Marvin Williams, however the eight year pro is out as he deals with an achilles and it seems that he remains “a ways off” from getting back on the court. In the end it was the home squad holding off a fourth quarter by the opposition and taking this one, as Oklahoma City won by a half dozen, beating Utah by the final tally of 88 to 82. With the loss the Jazz are now 1 and 4 (0-2 on the road) and will play once again versus the Lakers on the road on 10/22.
And there it is, the full run down for the games of 10/20/13 with former UNC Basketball players in them. Make sure to come back tomorrow for the next edition of the “Heels in the Pro’s: NBA Style” recap, when all four games on the schedule have former Tar Heels in them. And as always, check back with ISPORTSWEB for more things Carolina!
