The FCS No. 16 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (5-2, 3-1 Big Sky) look to continue their string of momentum, led by senior running back Zach Bauman, as they face the Cal-Poly Mustangs on the road on Oct. 26 at 9:05 p.m. ET.
NAU is coming off an impressive 39-30 Homecoming victory over Idaho State on Oct. 19.
Bauman rushed for a career-high 266 yards and added 58 yards receiving. Bauman rushed for 168 yards in the third quarter, 137 in six carries over the Lumberjacks’ first two scoring drives of the quarter.
NAU was down 14-12 entering the third quarter before Bauman rushed five times for 85 yards during a 6-play, 85-yard drive, including a season-long 57 yards on the second play.
On the Lumberjacks’ next drive, it took one play, as Bauman rushed for a 52-yard touchdown to give NAU a 25-14 lead.
Bauman would later add on a 9-yard touchdown late in the quarter.
Bauman leads the league in rushing yards at 126.3 per game, but the Mustangs lead the league in rushing offense at 287.3 yards per game.
Bauman earned four weekly honors for his stellar performance, including Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week and The Sports Network FCS National Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
He ranks fifth in rushing yards all-time in Big Sky history.
Two weeks ago, Bauman rushed for 196 yards in a 39-38 comeback victory at Sacramento State.
The Mustangs let a 14-7 lead slip away in the final two minutes of regulation as Montana rallied for a 21-14 overtime victory in their past game in Missoula, Mont.
Cal-Poly (3-4, 2-1 Big Sky) defeated NAU in the season finale last year 42-34 in Flagstaff.
The Mustangs held Bauman to 14 carries for 44 yards, while out-rushing NAU 323-95.
The Lumberjacks were down as much as 35-13 late in the third quarter before making it an eight-point game with 1:33 remaining.
Saturday’s game will mark the ninth time the two teams have met.
