The New York Giants are now (3-6) after beating the Oakland Raiders at Metlife stadium 24-20. This was an important win for the Giants in their attempts to stay alive within the division. The Giants were coming off their bye week last week and were able to address some of the major issues that where affecting the team. The Giants were able to pressure the quarterback, and get good production in the running game.
Earlier this week it was announced that running back Andre Brown was going to rejoin the team, after he suffered a broken leg. Brown broke his leg in the final preseason game this year, and was put on temporary injured reserved until he was healed. In a surprising move Tom Coughlin started Andre Brown, and it looked like he was playing all season at a high level. Brown had 30 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown. With Brown back the Giants will get a much needed boost to the running game, which has been struggling all season.
The defense also had a good game, despite the final score on the scoreboard, the defense was able to keep the Raiders in check for the game. In the game 17 of the Raiders 20 came off of turnovers, that gave Oakland short field situations which allowed them to score. When the Giants weren’t in short field situations, they forced three and outs, and got pressure on Terelle Pryor. Pryor was under pressure and, with his hurt knee, he was not able to create a lot of offense with his feet.
This win was a quality win for the Giants, but they are still going to have to keep stringing wins together to get back in the race. The Cowboys play the Saints and, if they lose to the Saints, the gap between the Giants and Cowboys gets closer. Next week the Giants play the Green Bay Packers who will not have Aaron Rodgers, and who lost to the Eagles. The chances for the Giants to get back in the race could not get any better. The Giants have momentum going into next week and should be able to beat the Packers
