The New York Jets (5-4) will start their run to the playoffs this week when they visit the Buffalo Bills (3-7). The Jets are coming off a three game stretch where they beat two division leaders, the (7-2) New England Patriots and (7-2) New Orleans Saints.
During the bye week the Jets got their fair share of help. The Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers all had a chance to join the Jets at 5-4, but all lost to their opponents in week 10. If the season were to end today the Jets would travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
The Jets have a one game lead for the wild card spot in the AFC. With either the Chiefs or Broncos basically locking up the 5 seed, their is only one spot left in the playoffs. The Jets’ schedule favors them down this stretch to make their push to the playoffs.
After a visit to Buffalo this week, the Jets will go to Baltimore where the Ravens (4-5) are right behind the Jets for the 6 spot. Gang Green also will play the (4-5) Dolphins twice in the next seven weeks and will host the (4-5) Cleveland Browns. The Jets will control their own destiny to make the playoffs.
In order to come out of the pack of 5-4 and 4-5 teams, the Jets need to take care of business this week. The Jets will not need help from anyone in the AFC if they can take care of business against the teams that are nipping at their heels.
The Jets have the most favorable schedule out of the teams fighting for the playoffs. The Jets only face one team with a winning record the rest of the season, the Carolina Panthers.
