As it was put by one Alabama football fan on Twitter, “the rich keep getting richer”. Now, can you see why so many people hate Bama fans? It’s because the best keep coming for the Tide.
In the university’s most recent recruiting victory, the No. 1 defensive end in the nation, Da’Shawn Hand, officially called Tuscaloosa his future collegiate home. As he told ESPN, he knew where he wanted to be.
“The campus life is amazing,” Hand said. “I know half the team already. The coaching staff is amazing. Why not go where it’s a great possibility you could win a national championship?”
Our thoughts exactly.
This decision has some broken hearts in other parts of the country. Michigan was a long time favorite to get the five star defensive end, but Alabama won out over both the Wolverines and Florida Gators in the end.
In an touching picture circulating the Twitter-sphere, Da’Shawn’s uncle clutched him as he made the decision Thursday, wearing an article of clothing that professed his support of the decision.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 262 pounds as a Junior in high school, Hand is from Woodbridge, Virginia, and so adds to the Tide’s appeal as an out of state location and a multi-state team culture.
Apparently part of the attraction to the University of Alabama was that Hand could pursue his dream of becoming a civil engineer, as well as a championship caliber football player. That’s a marriage of academics and athletics that Nick Saban has preached in his “Process” since he arrived at the university in 2007.
