The New York Jets (5-5) continue their push to the playoffs this Sunday with a visit to Baltimore to take on the defending champion Ravens (4-6).
The Jets are trying to recover from an embarrassing loss last week in Buffalo in which they were dominated in all three phases of the game. Geno Smith will have to forget last week’s performance where he threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. The rookie quarterback has his back against the wall, as fans call for Matt Simms yet again. Last time fans called for Simms, Smith played his best game of the season against Atlanta.
This week the Jets will have to establish a run game. Last week the run game was ineffective and put a lot of pressure on Smith. The Ravens have only let up one rushing touchdown all season but with Haloti Ngata’s status in doubt, the Jets should have an advantage up front.
The Jets’ defense should get after Joe Flacco. The Ravens’ offensive line isn’t very good, giving up 33 sacks already this year. Expect Muhammad Wilkerson and company to put pressure on Flacco consistently.
The Jets’ secondary must be ready for the challenge as the Ravens throw the ball 57 percent of the time on offense. The Jets have been giving up the big pass play all season and you have to expect Flacco will go after rookie corner back Dee Milliner due to his recent struggles. The key for the Jets to win is to bring pressure an force Flacco to get rid of the ball quickly to eliminate the deep passing game.
The Jets are in a tight race for the last wildcard spot in the AFC. This is a must win for Baltimore to have a chance to defend their title. The Jets will need to win this game to create some separation and breathing room in the playoff chase. I expect the Jets to come out and play good fundamental football like they have after every loss this season. I think the Jets go an win a tough road game, as long as they don’t turn the ball over.
