The Philadelphia Eagles entered their bye week on a three game winning streak with many positive notes to take away from the first 11 games of the season. While most people counted the Eagles out once Michael Vick was forced to miss significant time due to a hamstring injury, the Eagles have proven to be a deep team in a division that has allowed their 6-5 record to capture first place.
In 8 games, Nick Foles is putting up MVP caliber numbers. He has thrown 16 touchdowns, 7 of which came in one miraculous game against the Oakland Raiders, has a completion percentage of 63.6, has thrown for 1,554 yards and has a quarterback efficiency rating of 128.0.
Some people may like to attribute those statistics to an easy schedule through 8 games. However, Foles is doing all of this with a brand new offense and without the presence of one of the Eagles’ top receiving targets in Jeremy Maclin.
Not only has the Eagles’ passing attack caused opponents issues, but LeSean McCoy is running rampant on NFL defenses this season. Shady McCoy’s quickness goes unmatched and with help from a much improved offensive line, led by Jason Peters, McCoy has become the first halfback this season to surpass the 1,000 yard mark and is also averaging a respectable 4.7 yards per carry.
Now that the Eagles are in a groove offensively, teams are forced to put more points on the board. This has been made difficult for the opposition, as the Eagles’ defense has not allowed over 21 points over their last seven games, proving themselves to be a well-rounded team.
With the bye week coming at a convenient time, defensive starters Mychal Kendricks and Bradley Fletcher are expected to return after getting a week of rest, which would restore the Eagles defense to full strength.
Being associated with this year’s NFC East can cause people to overlook the Eagles. But coming out of a bye week that comes late in the season with a healthy roster is a rarity, making the Eagles a force to be reckoned with as the playoffs are swiftly approaching.
