The Mavericks are in a midst of a four-game road trip, having beaten the Pelicans by three on Dec. 4. Now it was off to Portland to face the West-leading Trail Blazers.
Monta Ellis hit the game winning shot as the buzzer sounded to give the Mavs the 108-106 win on Dec. 7, handing the Blazers just their second loss of the season.
Dallas entered the night 12-8 overall, sixth in the West and five games back of the Blazers.
Dirk Nowitzki finished with 28 points, six rebounds, and a season-high seven assists. Ellis added 22 for the Mavericks.
The Mavs have won three in a row and finish their road trip at Sacramento on Dec. 9 and at Golden State on Dec. 11 on ESPN.
Ellis and Nowitzki scored the final 14 for the Mavs, and Nowitzki scored 10 in the final quarter.
Ellis’ 12-foot jumper put Dallas up 106-100 with 45 seconds left before Nicolas Batum cut the lead in half on Portland’s ensuing possession.
Damian Lillard, who had a game-high 32 points, hit the tying 3-point shot with 1.8 seconds left. Lillard went 5-of-9 from deep.
The Blazers only had a chance to tie it because Ellis lost the ball off an inbounds pass with 6 seconds left with the Mavs up three.

The game went back-and-forth in the first half and had a playoff atmosphere. Portland led 30-28 after one, while the Mavs led 55-53 at halftime.
Dejuan Blair’s layup with 8:14 left in the third gave the Mavs their biggest lead of the game at 71-61, but Portland went on a 13-2 run after Batum’s three gave the Blazers the one-point lead with 1:53 left in the quarter.
The Mavs entered the fourth with a 79-76 lead.
Dallas found itself up big again with a nine-point lead with 8:10 left to play, but again the Blazers would go on a 16-7 run to tie it at 94-all with 3:58 left.
