The Florida Gators 2014 recruiting class received a huge boost (in more ways than one) when four-star offensive tackle David Sharpe (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) announced his decision to attend “the University of Gainesville” on Thursday.

The 6-foot-6, 288 pound Sharpe fills a big need for Florida. The No. 2 ranked tackle in the country, according to ESPN, will have a chance to play immediately for the Gators. Florida’s offensive line was a disaster in 2013, riddled by injuries and shotty play. Tyler Moore, D.J. Humphries, Max Garcia and Trenton Brown all started games at tackle for Florida this season.

Sharpe will need to add some bulk to his frame, but with some time and a little bit of coaching, he has a chance to develop into a top-tier left tackle at the collegiate level.

Sharpe committed to the Gators over Tennessee, Clemson and Alabama, among others. He is the fourth offensive lineman to commit to the Gators for 2014, joining Travaris Dorsey, Nolan Kelleher and Dontae Angus, although each of them plays guard.

Florida’s recruiting class now stands at 17 commits, with 10 in the ESPN 300.
