Phoenix Suns win 5th straight game

The Phoenix Suns are in the midst of an impressive 5 game winning streak after taking down the Golden State Warriors by a score of 106-102.

Phoenix set the pace right from the start by dropping 33 in the 1st quarter and not backing down from the fast paced game style that the Warriors love to play. It was a battle of the best backcourts in the NBA: The “Splash Brothers” (Curry and Thompson) vs. the “Slash Brothers” (Bledsoe and Dragic). It certainly lived up to the hype.

Dragic and Bledsoe combined for: 45 points, 12 assists, 7 steals, 9 rebounds and 7 turnovers.

Curry and Thompson combined for: 49 points, 10 assists, 3 steals, 7 rebounds and 8 turnovers.

Three point shooting was the key for both teams. Phoenix shot 13 for 27 (48%) from downtown while the Warriors hit 11 of 22 (50%). Channing Frye went for 20 points and 5 rebounds and shot very efficiently from the field.

PJ Tucker’s defense down the stretch was ultimately the x-factor. He forced his man to take highly contested shots and grabbed some big time rebounds in the final minutes that helped seal the deal.

It was a back and forth affair that had quite a few lead changes, and also had plenty of fast break points. If you like watching two fast paced offenses play then you would love watching this track-meet of a game.

Eric Bledsoe pumped after hitting a game winner vs. the Utah Jazz.

While Curry and Thompson get all the hype around the NBA as the best backcourt, I don’t buy it. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are elite and one of the best, but the Dragic-Bledsoe combo looks more formidable and well-balanced and tonight is an example of why. They can play lockdown defense, get steals, block shots, slash, shoot and rebound. They do it all and that is what separates them from any backcourt in the entire league in my opinion.

The Suns are now sitting at 14-9 on the year and that is good for the 6th seed in the West and they are now only 1 GB from the division leading Los Angeles Clippers.

Who they’ve beaten during the winning streak: Rockets, Raptors, Lakers, Kings and Warriors.

Who’s up next: vs. San Antonio Spurs

If they win beat the Spurs and win six in a row, it will even shock me. I said they would win between 37 and 45 games but whooa! They are only six games away from the 20 wins the naysayers said that would be the season total. lol
