The New York Giants (6-9) will finally end their tumultuous season this Sunday against the Washington Redskins (3-12). This game was predicted to decide the division winner at the beginning of the season, but now it doesn’t mean anything except bragging rights over a division rival, as both team look to end the season on a high note.
This game will not see Robert Griffin III start for the Redskins, and may also be Justin Tuck’s last as a New York Giant.
This is a rivalry game and the matchups and statistics do not mean as much for these two teams, especially since it will be the Giants’ first try at Kirk Cousins. Last week Cousins went 21 of 36 for 197 yards and one touchdown against Dallas, and the week before he went 29 for 45 with 381 yards and three touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons. There is no way to predict what kind of game Cousins will have on Sunday, but if the Giants get pressure, and take away Pierre Garcon as weapon, the Giants have a good shot of limiting him.
The Giants will have defensive end Justin Tuck in this game, and he should provide some pressure. Tuck has had 7.5 sacks over his last five games, and recorded four sacks in the last game against Washington. Tuck is playing for a contract next year and needs a stellar performance in this game to warrant a contract with big money. Another four sack performance against Washington and Tuck might get the contract he wants. Also playing for a contract is wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, and with Victor Cruz hurt, he has a chance to have a big game as well.
This game is a hard one to predict with everything surrounding it, and even though this game does not mean much, there is still pressure on these teams to win, and beat a rival. When its all said and done the Giants will win this one. They will force Cousins to have a bad game, and the defense will win this game for the Giants. The Giants’ offensive struggles will probably continue in this game with a banged up offensive line. Giants win 28-23
