A bombardment of goals in the Madrigal left the Basque side Real Sociedad shell shocked.
A sensational performance from Mexican international Giovani Dos Santos was the driving force to Villarreal’s 5-1 victory. Two goals and two assists from Dos Santos paved way for an important 3 points in the La Liga table.
Noteworthy was Dos Santos’s second strike that fizzed by keeper Claudio Bravo after a clever combination in the box. Even more impressive was Dos Santos’s ability to shake of a group of Sociedad defenders to squeeze in a pass for Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche for the fourth.
Mexican counter part Carlos Vela was a spectator to Dos Santos’s brilliance. The Villarreal striker stole the show. The Madrigal erupted on 5 separate occasions, 4 of which Dos Santos contributed to.
This match was the second encounter of three between the two clubs. The initial meeting being the first leg of the Copa del Rey which ended in a 0-0 tie last Thursday.
After a stalemate in San Sebastian Mondays clash was foreseen to be just as tight. But on the contrary this time around Villarreal completely dominated the Basque side. Far from the same team that defended so well in he first leg of the Copa del Rey.
The third match will be the return leg of the Copa which will take place Thursday, January 16th in the Madrigal.
Mexican counterpart Vela will hope for a little retribution after being eclipsed on Monday by Dos Santos. A little friendly competition between two of Mexico’s best attackers will make the third clash one not to miss.
In ideal circumstances both Vela and Dos Santos would be sharing the pitch not as opposition but as teammates . They make a dynamic duo, one El Tri fans wouldn’t mind seeing together in the World Cup conquering opposition the way they did in 2005 at the youth level.
