Indianapolis Colts: offensive line issues

The offensive line has been a point of weakness for the Indianapolis Colts since I can remember. Well before the Andrew Luck era and deep into the Peyton Manning one, the o-line has had its fair share of struggles.

It’s frustrating how bad this offensive line has been for so long. This needs to change as soon as possible; the team can’t be having their franchise quarterback being hit more than he needs to be, and potentially sustaining a serious injury.

And the worst part is, Samson Satele and Mike McGlynn might be the worst duo of them all.

Satele HAS HAS HAS to be cut this offseason. I honestly am not sure why he’s even still on the roster.

Okay, really, I understand the Colts must find a replacement for him before they can let him go, but seriously let’s get a move on with that. He has been a weak run blocker and a pass blocker with very low awareness.

Furthermore, Mike McGlynn is actually a pretty decent center, who I wouldn’t mind having as a backup.

The only problem is the coaches would then be tempted to use him as a guard, and that can’t happen.

He certainly puts in his utmost effort, but he’s just not the most talented of guards, he is built more like a center, and that should be the position he is in exclusively.

I hope to see these two in different uniforms come 2014.

Outside of that, I liked what I saw from Donald Thomas, from the limited sample size there was.

Anthony Castonzo and Gosder Cherilus were good starters and have proven their worth. They should be the tackles heading into next season.

There are some decent names out there in free agency: Alex Mack, Brian De La Puente, Jon Asamoah, etc. GM Ryan Grigson should definitely look into bringing in some of these guys, the Colts need veteran, proven, offensive linemen now and they need them fast.

The young guys, Khaled Holmes, Hugh Thornton and Xavier Nixon, will be very nice backups to have and could potentially be able to take over starting spots in the near future.

For now, it is time to bring in some guys that have shown they can play in this league and help Luck take yet another step forward in 2014.

Here’s to hoping Grigson has a good offseason. Go Colts!
