Denver Broncos: Super Bowl silver linings

I’m not going to talk about the game.  I refuse to make it seem like one game completely negates the season that the Denver Broncos had.  They came up short in the game that everyone cares about, but they fought through a lot just to be there in the first place. I will not make it seem as if one game determines the overall success of a season.

With that said, here are some of the silver linings for the 2013-14 Denver Broncos.

Peyton Manning will be back: There’s no way he’s going to be as successful as he was this year, but Peyton Manning will still be one of the best players in the league next year.  I highly doubt that Manning is going to let the Super Bowl be the last game he plays in.

Obviously, if the doctors tell Manning he can’t play anymore that changes everything, but if Manning is healthy enough he will play again next year, I’m sure of it.

Montee Ball will only get better: Reports have stated that the Broncos expect to lose Knowshon Moreno in free agency and that means that Montee Ball will be expected to carry the load for the Broncos next season.

Ball struggled with fumbles early on this year, but he finished the season strong and had huge games in the postseason. If he can continue to grow as a runner the Broncos running game will be pretty good next year.

The defense will be much better: Von Miller will be back next year, which will add an extra dimension to the Broncos rush defense, which was lacking this year.

I trust John Elway to make good off seasons moves with regards to the defense, and I think that the young players will only get better from their experiences this year.  Duke Ihenacho struggled this year at times, but I think that he will be a game changing secondary player when it is all said and done.

I highly doubt that Champ Bailey will come back next year.  I’m upset that he wasn’t able to go out a champion but at least he was able to make it to the super bowl.  If he leaves I think that the Broncos need to go out and find a fast corner that can cover quick slot receivers.  A speedy cornerback would be a huge addition to the defense.

The team will be hungry: If you think that the Broncos wanted to win this year after the loss to the Ravens think about how badly the Broncos will want it next year.

Historically teams that lose in the Super Bowl are horrible in the next season.  I think that the Broncos will still be great next year (and the AFC will still be pretty bad) and if they are able to play at the level they played at this year, there is no reason why they won’t be able to make the playoffs and go to the super bowl again next season.

If they can use the experience of this year and turn it into a reason to get better the Broncos may benefit from the painful loss in the Super Bowl in more ways than one.
