Golden State is currently on a 3-game winning streak since coming back from the All-Star break but can the Warriors overcome an upcoming 6-game road trip in Eastern Conference territory?
Stephen Curry and the rest of his crew have been quite successful when going up against teams in the East. Golden State has a 13-6 record against the East this year. On top of that, they are 23-7 against teams that have a record below .500. Since the East has a bevy of teams under .500, Golden State might have a pretty strong chance of improving on their 3-game winning streak.
Not so fast! Out of the six teams that the Warriors play during the road trip, three teams have a record over .500. Those three teams are the Chicago Bulls(29-25), Toronto Raptors(30-25) and the Indiana Pacers(42-13). The Warriors are 11-15 against teams over the .500 mark. That’s not to say they can’t win against some of the better teams in the East but it shows a small chink in the armor. They must put all their effort out on the court and not underestimate Eastern Conference teams just because they are in the inferior conference.
Golden State has already shown that they can represent the Western Conference very well when they go up against some of the top competition that the East has to offer. In a battle versus the Miami Heat earlier this year, Golden State proved they have what it takes to beat anybody in the league, even if it means taking on the defending NBA champions. The Warriors defeated the Heat by a score of 123-114 back in January. It was a game in which Curry had 36 points and 12 dimes. David Lee added 32 points and 14 rebounds in the game as well. Performances like these provide evidence that Golden State has a great chance to continue their winning ways, despite going up against some tough teams.
So far this season, Golden State is 4-1 against the teams that they will play during this road trip. The lone loss was given to them by Indiana. The Pacers defeated the Warriors 102-94 back on January 20th. These two young and hungry squads will bang heads once again on March 4th and the excitement will most likely be through the roof.
The 3-game winning streak that the Warriors are on is a sign that they could be gaining a good amount of momentum as the regular season comes to a close. A good team can keep streaks alive and Golden State can definitely do so. The 10-game winning streak that they had earlier this season could have possibly been a small taste of how many games the Warriors can win in a row. Could a 15-game winning streak be in the works? This road trip will say it all.
The Warriors have a tough task ahead of them as they travel to the other side of the country to take on some gritty Eastern Conference teams. Their first test is on Monday, February 24th at the historic venue known as The Palace of Auburn Hills, where they will be matched up against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are 23-33 but their record is not an accurate measure of the type of team they are and Golden State must play hard if they want to come out with a victory. Tune in for the start of this game at 7:30 ET . Golden State looks to improve on their current winning streak, while simultaneously representing the Western Conference by getting a handful of wins against the East over the course of this week.
