This edition of Monday Night RAW has to be one of the biggest episodes in the history of the WWE. For one, there are the potential returns of Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. Brock Lesnar is also rumored to be on RAW. It is the day the revolutionary WWE Network gets launched and the first episode on the road to Wrestlemania 30, the biggest Pay Per View the WWE has ever had.
Also, what will the fallout of Elimination Chamber be? What happens with the Shield? Does Daniel Bryan get any revenge? Is the Orton vs. Batista Wrestlemania main event still the plan (I hope not)? Get ready for a huge RAW. I am writing these grades as the show goes on, so if you disagree with me, let me know in the comments!
Hulk Hogan came out to talk about WWE Network and Wrestlemania 30. Cole, JBL, and Jerry Lawler talked about WWE Network.
This was really disappointing. I expect Hogan to come out and talk about the Daniel Bryan situation or at least be interrupted by someone. Nope. Just him coming out plugging the Network and announcing (which was already announced) that he will be hosting Mania. No talk of anything else. Get used to the WWE Network plugs from the announcers all night and for the next few weeks. I thought they plugged the WWE App way too much, I can’t imagine how much they will plug the Network.
Batista vs. Del Rio:
This was a rematch from last night. It’s funny, nobody cared about this match last night, do people care about it tonight? I doubt it.
Result: Del Rio rolled up Batista off Orton distraction. Orton and Batista traded words after the match.
The only reason this wasn’t a C was because Del Rio got a surprise victory, which is nice. But wow, this Wrestlemania main event could not be staler. Batista looked tired during the match which was already really slow. His post-match promo was very boring and he was booed the entire time. Is WWE really going to stick with this main event? I feel like they have to add Bryan in it some way somehow. People just don’t care about either of these two superstars.
Cesaro vs. Big E
Result: Big E wins via DQ after Swagger put Patriot Lock on Big E in the ring.
I really liked this. The match was given a lot of time and both men took advantage of that. It was fun and was not predictable at all, I really was not sure who would win. Big E looked very explosive and Cesaro was throwing him around the ring at times, which is incredibly impressive. I love the tease of a Real Americans break up, because that is what Cesaro needs. He is going to be receiving a big push soon and he needs to split from Swagger and Colter.
John Cena Promo
Cena came out and talked about WWE Network and how if anyone is the future of the company they have to go through him. He called out the Wyatts who responded and Bray Wyatt cut another good promo. The Wyatts eventually all attacked Cena, who looked like he may have hurt his leg during the fight, let’s hope not.
I like that Cena is taking notice that there are people who need to step up and become the future because he can’t be at the top forever. Bray Wyatt is great on the mic, I think that since CM Punk left he is the best talker in the business. I’m pretty excited for the buildup to the inevitable Cena vs. Wyatt match at Wrestlemania. It’s the top guy vs. the creepy dark guy who can’t stand people at the top? Sounds good to me.
Christian vs. Sheamus
Result: Sheamus pins Christian after a Brogue Kick
This was a decent match. There was a little bit of a buildup here because of Christian and Sheamus cheap-shotting each other recently. Christian jumping off the top rope right into a Brogue Kick was something we have yet to see. A lot of wrestling on RAW tonight, little talk.
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane
I thought this one would likely be the main event, but with the addition of Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns (thank you, WWE) this one was a little earlier in the night. Many people tend to forget that just a year ago they were Team Hell No, the hottest tag team in the company.
Result: Daniel Bryan beats Kane after a running knee
This wasn’t Daniel Bryan’s best, but Daniel Bryan matches never seem to be bad. It was great to see Bryan finally get his revenge on Kane for beating down on him the past few weeks. After the match, Bryan took to the mic to challenge Triple H to a match at Wrestlemania. Many wanted to see Bryan win the WWE World Heavyweight Title at Mania, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen. But hey, watching him get some revenge on Triple H is a pretty nice replacement if you ask me.
Emma vs. Summer Rae
Result: Emma makes Summer Rae tap out.
I kind of like Emma. She is so different than the usual cocky divas that think they are the best. She acts really awkward and I think that is pretty funny to watch. As for the match, both divas showed some promise but they really did not have much time to work with.
The Usos vs. New Age Outlaws (Non-title Match)
This match didn’t really get underway. The bell rang and the New Age Outlaws wanted to do their little pre match introduction. Usos ended up cutting it short.
Result: The Usos win in less than a minute
This show is starting to run out of time, especially with the Wyatt vs. Reigns match and Brock Lesnar still has to appear, so this was made really short. I assume this is setting up for a Tag Team Title match at Wrestlemania. This didn’t get a C because I am excited about the Usos hopefully finally getting the titles at Mania.
Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns
Result: Bray Wyatt wins by DQ after Dean Ambrose attacked him.
This did not make much sense to me. I expected a lot more out of this match, but it was pretty slow. The end heated up a little bit with Rowan and Harper showing up and then Rollins and Ambrose eventually filling out the brawl. I really don’t know where this rivalry is going. It looked like it was going to be Cena vs. Bray, but Cena’s injury looks really serious now. I wonder if the Shield will still break up too. I guess we’ll see next week.
Brock Lesnar Promo and Undertaker Arrival
Result: Brock Lesnar and Undertaker sign contract for match at Wrestlemania 30. Undertaker then chokeslams Lesnar through a table after stabbing him in the hand with his pen.
This was really fun. You could tell something was going to happen eventually and it was still really cool. The Undertaker still has the scary presence he’s shown for about 25 years. I expected something of this magnitude to close out to show right before the WWE Network went live. The buildup to this match should be one of the best out of all the upper card matches at Mania.
