Mexico Soccer: Top dogs collide; Cruz Azul and Toluca meet in Estadio Azul


The leaders of the LigaMX table Toluca and Cruz Azul will faceoff this Saturday for the prestige of being top dog of the league.

The two most consistent teams this season will finally get a chance to resolve once and for all who currently rules the LigaMX. Three points away from home for Toluca would still only be enough to match Cruz Azul’s 22 points. But its safe to say that Toluca will not mind cuttng the gap between them. Toluca currently has a record of 6-1-1 while Cruz Azul stands with a 7-1-0 record and the only team to remain undefeated this season.

The thrilling encounter will see Marco Fabian and Mauro Formica both with 4 goals a piece clash with Toluca’s Isaac Brizuela who stands with 3 goals while Paraguayan teammate Pablo Velazquez holds 5.

Home field advantage will be on Cruz Azul’s side . But the diablos rojos will hope to turn the Estadio Azul into a raging inferno. Brizuela who is in top form at the moment will hope to impress and justify his call up to the national team. Looking inspired this season Brizuela will not want to squander his chance at making it to Brazil 2014. Fabian on the other hand also has something to prove to head coach Miguel Herrera. Labeled as an inconsistent player fabians hot form with the cementeros is a giant improvement from how he was performing while at Chivas. Fabian who was not called up for the friendly in Atlanta is still dying to prove his worth, particularly at the national team level.

Cruz Azul’s clash with Toluca will be the perfect opportunity for players like Brizuela and Fabian to shine. Herrera will certainly be watching with a keen eye the results of this important fixture.
