On Monday the Los Angeles Clippers came to New Orleans and handed the Pelicans a 123-110 loss. Jamal Crawford had the hot hand and finished the game with 24 points and went 7-for-12 behind the three-point line. The Pelicans didn’t have an answer for the 16 made three pointers from the Clippers. Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Alexis Ajinca chipped in 19 points, which was a career high. The Pelicans fell behind early and were outscored in the first three quarters, but could never recover.

The Pelicans flew to California on Saturday to take on the Clippers for the second time in six days. Unfortunately, the end result was the same for the Pelicans. Eric Gordon started out 0-for-8 from the floor and the Pelicans missed 17 of their first 20 shots. Davis was limited to only 20 minutes due to early foul trouble and that’s a big reason why the Pelicans lost 108-76. Tyreke Evans finished with a game high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while dishing out five assists.

In the last two games against the Clippers, the Pelicans have only made 10 three pointers out of 40 attempts.

On Wednesday, the Pelicans lost to the Dallas Mavericks 108-89. The Pelicans were ahead by seven after the first quarter and than were outscored by 13 in the second quarter. Coming out of halftime the Mavericks outscored the Pelicans by 13 to get the win. Davis left this game early with shoulder pain and Gordon was the top scorer for the team with 19 points. This was a tough loss for the Pelicans, because they had the lead and than Davis left the game and the team lost most of the energy.

Goran Dragic lit up the Pelicans for 40 points on Friday night, in the US Airways Center. The Pelicans played alongside the eighth seeded Suns the whole game, but in the fourth quarter Dragic turned on the jets and the Pelicans were outscored by 12 points. Davis finished with 32 points, which tied his career high, but the Pelicans lost 116-104. The Suns bench scored 43 points, while the Pelicans bench scored only 26 points.

Takeaways

Tyreke Evans started the last two games for the Pelicans and those were his first two starts of this season. The last two games Evans scored 14 points and 22 points respectively. The Pelicans still lost both these games, but he gave the team more scoring than what he was doing off the bench. The injury to Holiday gives the Pelicans slim options at that position. Although, if the team keeps losing games that top five draft pick may be theirs for the taking.

The Pelicans have lost seven games in a row and three more losses will put them tied with the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings for the worst record in the Western Conference.
