Horse Racing Breaking News: Champion Shared Belief officially out of the 2014 Kentucky Derby

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer confirmed today (March 13) that last year’s 2-year-old champion Shared Belief will not only not run in the 2014 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland next month, but is officially out of the 2014 Kentucky Derby as well.

“I never had the horse on the Derby trail anyway; the media had him on the Derby trail,” Hollendorfer said. “When me and my owners discussed this, way back when we got the horse, we never were concerned about getting to the Derby anyway.”

“Right now I don’t have a good update for you,” Hollendorfer continued. “We’re working with the horse up here and as soon as he’s ready to run, we’ll run him.”

Although he was nominated to the April 12 Blue Grass, Shared Belief will not make that race either due to a severe quarter crack.

Shared Belief was to have started in the Feb. 8 Robert B. Lewis Stakes but missed a Jan. 24 workout due to the injury, which in turn, scrapped plans for a start in that race.

“We’ll get him ready to run later on, if he stays good,” Hollendorfer said.
