It seems misfortune has finally caught up with the super lider of the Liga MX, as Cruz Azul’s undefeated streak ended in humiliation last Saturday when the Maquina fell 3-0 to Tigres in Estadio Universitario.
Enjoying a tremendous start to the season of defeating teams left and right it was inevitable that Cruz Azul’s luck what soon run out. Cruz Azul’s first defeat of the season appears to have unleashed a chain reaction as the Maquina also fell midweek against Sporting Kansas City in the CONCACAF Champions League. A loan goal from Kevin Ellis sealed Cruz Azuls fate, giving Sporting a much needed victory in the first of two legs. Wednesdays defeat was the second of the week for La Maquina. If that wasnt bad enough it is troubling to see that los Cementeros were deficient of goals in both encounters. Experiencing low morale at the moment Cruz Azul must find goals again to remount in both tournaments.
Cruz Azul will have a chance to overturn the 1-0 defeat in Kansas City when they recieve Sporting in the Estadio Azul for the second leg of the Champions League quarter finals Wednesday March 19th. With that fixture less than a week away Cruz Azul has very little time to spare to get back to its winning ways. On Saturday they will host Tijuana in the Estadio Azul with the hopes of once again finding the goal.
It is pivitol for Cruz Azul to break its run of bad luck immediately. Defeating Tijuana this Saturday could be the perfect remedy to reboot morale within the club. A fine performance on Saturday could fine tune the Maquina for its encounter with Sporting next Wednesday. Cruz Azul is down by only one goal on aggregate so the remount is quite attainable, that is if Cruz Azul can once again find the back of the net.
Cruz Azul still stand top of the league with 25 points with close rivals Toluca standing at 22.
