Filling in for David Harns in this week’s Detroit Free Press column, I take a look at what has been one of the more roller coaster seasons for the Michigan State Basketball program, which culminated Sunday night with a Big Ten tournament championship over in-state rival Michigan. And I also bring up the question of which MSU Basketball team will we see come tournament time?

They’re a mind-boggling bunch.
The 2014 Michigan State Basketball team, that is.
Imagine a team at the beginning of the season believed to be so good, they were labeled by coach Tom Izzo as one of his most talented groups of kids ever, high praise coming from a coach who has taken six different teams to the Final Four over the course of his 19-year career at Michigan State.
Imagine a team that would go on to take down the No. 1 school in the nation in their second game of the season, and would get the year off to a school best record start of 18-1.
And imagine a team that when at their best, can throw alley-oops off the backboard to trailing teammates in the fast break (à lá Denzel Valentine to Branden Dawson vs. Texas), light it up from downtown with the best of them and can rely on a core of three super star players….(continue reading here).
