The Phoenix Suns currently sit one game back from Memphis and a game and a half back from Dallas for one of the final two playoff spots in the Western Conference.
Phoenix is 5-5 in its last 10 games played. That trend needs to end now. Playing .500 ball will not get you in the playoffs, (unless you are in the Eastern Conference) so it’s time for a much needed win-streak to help propel them into one of those final two playoff spots.
Memphis got a scare with Marc Gasol leaving their game against Miami in a walking boot after injuring his ankle, but fortunately he appears to be OK because he was in the starting lineup in their win over Indiana (ugh) on Saturday night.
What you need to know
- The Suns are 1-1 against the Mavericks this year and will play them again in their third to last game of the season. Whoever wins will get the tie-breaker so that game will have a ton of meaning.
- The Grizzlies currently hold the tie-breaker over the Suns since they are 3-0 against them this year.
- The Suns have 9 games on the road and 4 games at home remaining.
Bledsoe is back and this team is ready to go “full throttle” and make a run into the playoffs for the first time since they made the Western Conference Finals in 2010-2011.
If Phoenix wants to sneak in, there are few things that will have to go their way. With 13 games left, here is what the schedule looks like for the Suns to finish out the season.
@ Minnesota Timberwolves
@ Atlanta Hawks
@ Washington Wizards
vs. New York Knicks
@ Los Angeles Lakers
vs. Los Angeles Clippers
@ Portland Trail Blazers
vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
@ New Orleans Pelicans
@ San Antonio Spurs
@ Dallas Mavericks
vs. Memphis Grizzlies
@ Sacramento Kings
As you can see it’s a pretty difficult schedule due to them being on the road quite a bit and going up against 8 teams with records over .500.
It will be a tall task, but Phoenix will need to go at least 8-5 in this 13 game stretch and will have to hope one of Memphis or Dallas is only able to win 6 or 7 games in their 12 and 13 game stretches respectively in order to gain a game on them.
When they play Memphis and Dallas head to head in the final week of the season those two games will be huge and must-win games for the Suns.
It shall be a crazy finish to the season and no matter what happens I think it’s fair to say this has been an entertaining season and this team will be good for years to come with all the young talent and draft picks they have stockpiled.
