MSU Football: Former Michigan State linebacker Denicos Allen has chance to prove himself in NFL

Denicos Allen was signed to the Carolina Panthers after he went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. Does he have a chance for success? I discuss that topic in this week’s isportsweb Freep Column

Spartan fans came into this year’s NFL Draft with a lot of excitement. Cornerback Darqueze Dennard was a possible top ten pick and there were several other players that were almost sure draft picks. Fans were left disappointed after the draft, though, because Dennard got drafted lower than most expected (24th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals) and zero other players from MSU were snagged. One of those players was Denicos Allen.

Allen, the 5’10”, 225 pound outside linebacker, came into the offseason with a chip on his shoulder. Despite being one of the best players on one of the best defenses in the country for three years (and in some years leading the team in tackles), Allen wasn’t even invited to the NFL combine. Scouts thought he was too small to play his natural position, Sam linebacker (strong side outside linebacker), and they didn’t like him at other positions on the field.
