Indianapolis Colts: Which rookies will make the team?

The Indianapolis Colts had a below average draft this year with the choices they made being only limited to five selections. This left room for a lot of undrafted rookies to be signed with the Colts as they look to establish their roster for the 2014 season.

Many of these undrafted rookies will have a lot to overcome during this offseason and in the preseason as well. With that being said, a lot of guys are either locks to make the team, while others have to battle their way to get a chance to wear blue and white. Here is my list of players who are going to make the team and guys with something to prove.

OT/G Jack Mewhort

WR Donte Moncrief

ILB Andrew Jackson

OLB Johnathan Newsome

NT Zach Kerr

T Jack Breckner

DE Tyler Hoover

The Colts at the moment would have 11 wide receivers on their roster once they sign Moncrief. Even though Moncrief is a lock to make the team, he still will have a lot to prove to the team in order to get playing time sitting behind receivers like Reggie Wayne, Hakeem Nicks, and T.Y. Hilton.

Players with something to prove

C Jonotthan Harrison– Harrison turns in a good resume at center and will easily be in battle not only to make the team, but to even earn a starting spot. With former center Phil Costa retired, Harrison has the opportunity to be the guy in Indianapolis.

TE Erik Swoope– the Colts are going to have their hands full when it comes to Swoope. Swoope has no experience playing football at any level. The Colts are hoping that he can turn out to be someone like tight end Jimmy Graham or even tight end Antonio Gates, both former basketball stars. So far though, reports have said that the Colts like what they are seeing from Swoope so far.

K Cody Parkey– We all know that Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri is getting close to the end of his amazing career in the NFL. The guy has been clutch in many situations throughout his time in New England and Indianapolis. Parkey has the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest to ever play, and will most likely find a spot on the practice squad in his first year if he impresses during the preseason.

CB Loucheiz Purifoy– Try saying that name five times fast. Anyways, the Colts brought it four undrafted rookie cornerbacks to fight for a spot to make the team and I think Purifoy has the most to prove and will outshine the other three guys. If Purifoy does make the team, it will be on special teams.

The preseason may not matter to a lot of the fans out there who are watching, but make no mistake; it means something to these guys.
