The New York Giants 90-man roster is going to be significantly slimmed down in the coming weeks. Training camp is finally on the horizon and big things are going to go down on the field. As the men fight to gain a spot on the 53-man squad they are also going to be fighting for a specific position. Here are three position battles that you should definitely keep an eye on at camp.
The most obvious position that needs to be watched is tight end. Yes, we have been discussing who, what, when for months now, but the decision has yet to be made. The tight end position as we know is a necessity to the offensive line so the choice will not be made lightly. Clearly Ben McAdoo feels the same as I do because he will not just hand out the spot to anyone. With his new offensive schemes and strategies the tight end needs to be the perfect person for the job.
As you all probably know, Xavier Grimble, Adrien Robinson, Larry Donnell, Daniel Fells and Kellen Davis are all fighting for this spot. The starting position will be determined at camp so everyone is going to be working hard and showing their skills. This is definitely a position battle for the books so watched closely at training camp.
The first corner position will most likely go to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie because he’s a beast and getting paid a lot of money to be there. He’s among the top ten highest paid Giant players with a $35 million contract. Amukamara and Trumaine fall way below that number coming in around 8 and 2, so if DRC is moving and playing well he’s got the first corner job. These men will use training camp to duke it out for this second top spot and anything can happen.
The last position battle that should have your attention is between John Conner and Henry Hynoski. This fullback battle is going to be explosive and a must see. If you didn’t know, Conner was the replacement for Hynoski last season when Hynoski was injured and was unable to continue playing.
Training camp is going to be a bloodbath between these two brutes. Conner plays with crushing power blocks while Hynoski is a better pass catcher. Both are impressive players and are extreme assets to the team and the decision will not come easy.
This year’s training camp is going to be an intense grudge match between most of the New York Giants players. These three are a definite must watch because they’re going to be dirty. All have a reason to be on the field and will have to show their best stuff because the next best guy will be nipping at their heels. With these matches in mind, who are you putting your money on?
