Free agent small forward Paul Pierce has decided to take his talents to the nation’s capital.
That’s right. “The Truth” agreed to a 2-year contract worth $11 million with the Washington Wizards on Saturday. The 36-year-old may be an old head by NBA standards but the Wizards can definitely use his knowledge and experience to help the franchise become a huge Eastern Conference threat for the next couple of seasons.
After failing to re-sign Trevor Ariza, the Wizards can rest easy due to the recent signing of Pierce. The loss of Ariza had Wizards’ fans wondering who would fill the void at small forward. Well, Pierce is 18th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 25,031 points. It’s probably safe to say Pierce is a pretty acceptable consolation prize for the Wizards. Wouldn’t you think?
At 36 years of age, Pierce is a 16-year veteran. Over the duration of his career, he has blessed the league with a number of clutch performances. Not to mention, Pierce has always moved as slow as a snail but finds a way to leave the defense in awe. His ability to slow the game down is a testament of his one-of-a-kind legacy.
This smooth scorer has career averages of 21.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Pierce averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 75 games for the Brooklyn Nets last year. The 10-time All-Star may be far removed from his glory days with the Boston Celtics but he still has enough gas in the tank to give the Wizards a big boost in the future.
