San Francisco 49ers: Early impressions from training camp

san francisco 49ers

Training camp is in full effect and the San Francisco 49ers are quickly learning what some of their young players and new additions are capable of doing on the football field.  Here are some of the more interesting aspects in the 49ers camp so far.

Vernon Davis looks to be focused

After failing to attend a mandatory mini-camp in an attempt to get a new deal, Davis showed up on day one and looked focused on helping the team win football games.  Davis is still looking for a new contract but will get fined 30,000 dollars every time he is absent so it’s understandable why he would show up.  It looks that he has proved his point and he is now focused on showing the organization why he is worth it which bodes well for the 49ers.

Hyde and Ward coming along

Arguably San Francisco’s top two prospects have done nothing to give the 49ers second thoughts on drafting them.  Jimmie Ward has been an absolute ball hawk and seems to be adjusting well to defending a pro style offense.  Frank Gore has been limited and rightfully so as he is entering his 11th season, which means that Carlos Hyde is seeing a lot of action and getting a bunch of reps.  There are some rumblings that he runs the ball like Marshawn Lynch which is a great sign.

Stevie Johnson is fitting in

It would be hard to imagine anyone happier that Colin Kaepernick right about now with the amount of offensive weapons at his disposal.  Johnson, who will be the 49ers’ third receiver, is looking real sharp early on creating separation and getting his hands on anything that’s in his vicinity.  He alone is giving the 49ers offense a different feel and a more dynamic look.  Look for him to make a huge impact down the road.

Injuries

This of course is the one thing you try to avoid and unfortunately the 49ers have already suffered some setbacks.  Two of their running backs have received major injuries and Kendall Hunter, the number two back is gone for the season with a torn ACL.  LaMichael James has dislocated his elbow is expected to miss a month according to ESPN. Better to get them out of the way now I guess.
