Michigan State Football: MSU is once again a football school (Freep column)

In this week’s Detroit Free Press column I take a look at how Mark Dantonio has made MSU into a football school once again. As always, the column starts here and finishes at the Freep website.

Generally it’s easy to tell the difference between a football school and a basketball school. Kentucky is synonymous with college basketball and Alabama lives and dies with it’s football program. It’s that simple.

Not for Michigan State.

For the Spartans it has never been that clear-cut, but since Tom Izzo took over the basketball program it has garnered much more national attention than the football program–at least until the last few years.

Izzo has brought the team to six Final Four’s and won a National Championship, giving Michigan State the reputation around the country as a basketball school.
