MLS Transfer Rumor: Rapper Lupe Fiasco tries to recruit Jermaine Jones

Jermaine Jones

It’s the final day of the summer transfer window and some teams, or their fan base, are going berserk. While the supporters of Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy and other big teams might not be too concerned about their clubs inactiveness, Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire fans must enraged due to their clubs’ barren summer.

Before you settle down and enjoy the MLS All-Star game tonight, here are some transfer rumors to keep you entertained.

Lupe Fiasco, rapper turned recruiter.

First, Drake helped Toronto FC secure Jermain Defoe’s signature, now Lupe Fiasco is taking a moment out of his busy schedule to encourage a big name player to join his hometown team. The 32-year-old hip hop artist took to twitter to convince Jermaine Jones to reconsider joining Chicago Fire.

Fiasco posted these tweets on his official Twitter account on Tuesday.

With the Fire struggling in the Eastern Conference, Fiasco could be their hero if he manages to convince Jones to join the bottom-dwellers.

Sebastián Jaime is on the verge of signing with Real Salt Lake.

If the reports are true, an Argentine forward is on his way to link up with Javier Morales in Utah.

Jaime, 27, could be the guy to solve RSL’s forward issues. The Argentine has spent the last three seasons with Unión Española in Chile. He scored 44 goals in 120 appearances.

The 5-foot-10 forward usually plays down the middle, but he is also effective on the flanks. Due to Álvaro Saborío’s injury, he’ll most likely play down the middle, but could be placed out wide when the Costa Rican forward returns.

Tottenham Hotspur might have won the Deandre Yedlin sweepstake.

Finally, the rumors about Deandre Yedlin might be over. Since his impressive showing at the World Cup, almost every big European team has been trying to sign the 21-year-old.

According to ESPN’s “transfer psychic” Taylor Twellman, Tottenham has won the race for Yedlin and the right back will leave Seattle at the end of the season.

The return of Michael Gspurning.

In 2013, Gspurning left MLS on an unpleasant note. The Austrian goalkeepers errors was a big reason why Seattle crumbled towards the end of the regular season, and ultimately in the playoffs.

But it looks like he might get a second chance with New York City FC. There are reports that the expansion club wants to sign the towering goalkeeper. If he joins NYCFC, he’ll have to compete against Josh Saunders for the No.1 job.

Is Toronto FC shopping for a new attacker?

Turkish international Colin Kazim-Richards is been linked with a move to Toronto. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favor in Turkey and it looks like Ryan Nelsen might be interested, especially after Defoe’s injury.

If signed, the inconsistent player will certainly be a Designated Player. That’s where the issue lies. Toronto already has three DP’s, which means Kazim-Richards might have to settle for less money.

Columbus close to signing a veteran forward.

Dimitrios Papadopoulos, a Greek forward, could be unveiled as the Crew’s new acquisition within the next few hours, or minutes. The former Greece international has played in numerous European countries, including Spain and England, since he became a professional in 1999.

Chivas USA have signed Ecuadorian World Cup veteran.

It looks like Erick “Cubo” Torres is getting some much-needed help up top. Felix Borja has secured a transfer to Chivas, according to a tweet by the player’s current Ecuadorian club, LDU Quito.

The man nicknamed “the Kangaroo” represented his country at the 2006 World Cup. He has also played in Germany, Greece and Mexico.
