It’s surely the biggest party of the summer. SummerSlam is shaping up to be one heck of a show, with the main event looking like a potential classic.
Paul Heyman said it best, and John Cena fans should be worried when he steps into the ring Sunday night: “Bad things happen to good people when you step into the ring with Brock Lesnar.”
Just ask anyone. Triple H, The Rock, CM Punk, and of course The Undertaker.
Brock Lesnar is a beast, an animal, or anything else that describes something that destroys anything that is in his way. He is the only man to ever hold the WWE Championship and the UFC Championship. He is one the biggest names in the history of WWE and UFC, and he’s coming for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
What hasn’t Lesnar accomplished? Not only has he won the two biggest titles in WWE and UFC, but he also ended the greatest streak in the history of wrestling when he defeated the Undertaker at WrestleMania 30. Brock Lesnar shocked the world that night, and one has to think that nothing he can do can top that.
The two squared off one before, at Extreme Rules 2012, and Cena was victorious. The match was brutal and bloody and many expect their SummerSlam bout to be the same way in terms of physicality.
In terms of a story to tell, this time, things are a bit different. The WWE World Title is on the line.
Lesnar is coming off of the biggest win of his career. He toppled the 21-0 undefeated streak that the likes of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Edge, Randy Orton, Kane, and many, many more could not beat. Winning the WWE World Title is considered WWE’s biggest honor, but I believe beating that streak is the biggest thing any superstar could do. Lesnar is currently on top of the WWE World.
Then comes John Cena. WWE’s own superhero. He is the current WWE World Champion and he is a favorite to win almost all of his matches. A lot of fans hate Cena, but he leads the merchandising sales by a huge margin, and he is no question to top guy the company has right now. There really is no one that John Cena can’t beat.
But with that said, can Cena win at SummerSlam? Can Cena beat the man who beat the Undertaker?
I really don’t think so.
Brock Lesnar’s stock is too high right now. It would be really hard for WWE to make Cena stronger than he ever was, but a win over Lesnar would, in my opinion, make Cena look too strong. Like I said before Lesnar is on top of the WWE World. He did the unthinkable, he broke the streak, how could he lose his very next match?
Lesnar being a part-timer who only sporadically shows up on RAW hurts his chances of winning the title, but WWE has put the title on a part-timer before (see Royal Rumble 2013, WrestleMania 29) and I think they won’t be afraid to do it again.
Cena is going to look very strong in the match, I can almost promise that. However, it’s not Cena’s night, it’s Lesnar’s.
After SummerSlam, WWE will have a part-timer hold the WWE World Title for who knows how long. Maybe even until WrestleMania 31.
