There are many fans worried about what the Denver Broncos can do in the draft to make up for a lot of the players they lost after winning the Super Bowl. Executive Vice President John Elway will have to once again find a way to attain players that can join the team and instantly make a positive impact.
Paxton Lynch QB
As we go through these predictions as to who the Denver Broncos should target, I understand that it will all come down to who is available at the 31st pick if the Broncos don’t decide to move up in the draft. With the two main quarterbacks in the draft most likely going number one and two, Paxton Lynch could be the next best option at quarterback. Lynch would be much like Brock Osweiler when it comes to how he throws the ball as well as being another well above average quarterback in the NFL when it comes to size. The best case scenario would be to have a player that can play with many similarities to Osweiler, as the team had adjusted and showed they were could be successful with that style of play from their quarterback. It’s difficult to think that John Elway and the coaching staff will start the season with Mark Sanchez, which makes the idea of drafting Paxton Lynch out of the University of Memphis with the 31st pick.
Reggie Ragland ILB
Not many people would have the Denver Broncos taking a Linebacker in the first round, yet with the loss of Danny Trevethan I think it will be key to keep some depth at the position. Right now many mock drafts have Reggie Ragland who played for the University of Alabama going 19th overall in this years draft to the Buffalo Bills. Things tend to change often during the draft and I could definitely see Ragland finding his way towards the end of the first round. By picking up a guy like Ragland, the Denver Broncos can continue to add new defensive weapons that could potentially continue to help the Broncos maintain their top ranked defense for years to come. The 6′ 2″ 258 lb inside linebacker has shown some explosiveness and play making abilities as a young leader at Alabama and would fit in well with the Broncos’ hard hitting defense.
A’Shawn Robinson DE/DT
The offseason did not do the Broncos many favors when it came to picking up new players and hanging on to the impact players that helped the team win Super Bowl 50. One major move for Denver will be finding someone who can replace their dominant defensive end Malik Jackson who now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars. One player that could help fill that void is the 300 lb A’Shawn Robinson from the University of Alabama. Robinson has proven to be a fast interior defender and very strong at the point of attack in his time at Alabama.
This years draft is going to be important for the Broncos to pick up some players that can fill in for some of the roles that the team lost this offseason. There is always going to be speculation as to who the best player available is for each team, but I believe that these three guys will be the three players the Denver Broncos will want to target with their first round pick.
