The Philadelphia 76ers trade rumors are running rampant. There are two players involved in the rumors for the 76ers, Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. Most of the trades involve the 76ers giving up either Noel or Okafor for draft picks. But there are a few rumors that involve the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks parting ways with significant talents.
The biggest rumor and least likely to happen is the Bulls trading Derrick Rose, Mike Dunleavy, Taj Gibson and the fourteenth overall pick. This is mostly a salary dump and doesn’t make any sense for the 76ers, assuming they take Ben Simmons first overall. Simmons and Rose are both players who need to handle the ball. Both struggle with catch and shoot situations so it would not make sense offensively.
Rose isn’t the explosive MVP he once was. He is only signed through this upcoming season making a crazy 20 million dollars. Although the 76ers have over 50 million dollars in cap space, it doesn’t mean they should get rid of a young talent in Noel for a very risky Rose.
Noel has more value than the fourteenth pick and that is what this trade comes down to. Gibson and Dunleavy would be released or would leave after the season. Rose would be worth 20 million for this season if the 76ers did not have to give anything up. With a lot of cap space the 76ers would not be really be risking anything. But parting ways with Noel would not be a smart move in this situation.
The other rumor involving Noel is with the Hawks. The deal would send Noel to the Hawks and Jeff Teague to the 76ers. As of now the trade looks to be player for player. The 27-year-old from the Hawks averaged 16 points and 6 assists per game last season. There is one year left on his contract worth eight million dollars. Teague shot 40% from three point range, which the 76ers desperately need.
Teague does not need the handle the ball to score. Teague could play shooting guard but would still be guarded by the point guard because Simmons is handling the ball and would require a taller defender. Since Teague does not need to create for his team he could take higher IQ shots and would not have to force shots as much.
Teague could play the point when Simmons needs a rest. Having two good ball handlers would help out this young team. Defensively Simmons could guard the small or power forward and Teague could guard the point guard. This gives the 76ers a more flexible lineup.
There have also been talks of Jahlil Okafor getting traded before the draft. Most of these rumors have been Okafor for the third or fourth overall pick. He has more value than those picks this year. If those picks were offered for next year which has a much deeper draft, especially for guards, the trade would more favorable for the 76ers.
There have been reports of the 76ers getting the third pick and Avery Bradley from the Boston Celtics. This deal would be great for the 76ers because Bradley is an elite defender and great three point shooter. It would allow the 76ers to draft Jamal Murray. This rumor seems to good to be true. The trade would most likely be the third pick or Bradley. But the Celtics do have a lot of guards and have the rights to the Brooklyn Nets pick for the next three years (including this year). Kevin Garnett did say, “Nothing is impossible”.
