In week 16 the San Francisco 49ers take on the Rams in what is the there last best chance to get win number two on the season. Way back in week one, the 49ers defeated the Rams 28-0, which seemed like forever ago, as the 49ers have lost a franchise record 13 straight games. San Francisco currently has the second pick in the upcoming draft and can lock in that scenario with a loss today. Can the 49ers break the 13 game losing streak? Here are the predictions from the 49ers staff writers:
The excitement is uncharacteristically low for the upcoming California rivalry between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. Despite a decisive 28-0 win against the Rams to start the season, the injury-wrought 49ers are a different team entering this matchup. Colin Kaepernick will not have wide receivers Torrey Smith and Quinton Patton or tight end Vance McDonald at his disposal, so look for a lot of ground offense from San Francisco. The Rams’ run defense is ranked No. 19 in the league, opening the door for Carlos Hyde to do some damage. In reality, this game will be decided by whichever weak unit performs the strongest: the 49er defense or the Ram offense. San Francisco remains last in the league against the run, but L.A. brings just as little firepower on offense due to quarterback Jared Goff’s below-average rookie season behind a terrible offensive line and running back Todd Gurley’s disappointing 778-yard season with only five touchdowns. On paper, this game should provide a second win for the 49ers. On the field, however, San Francisco has not been able to put away a number of beatable opponents. It’s difficult to see them pulling it together in week 16.

San Francisco’s upcoming game with the Rams features two of the worst team in the league. The 49ers will come into the game with a roster depleted with injuries and the Rams fired their coach two weeks ago. Carlos Hyde, the 49ers best player enters the game 50 yards shy of his first 1,000 yard season and has a great opportunity to reach that mark. The Rams have turned to rookie first overall pick Jared Goff, and he has played ok since he took over. This game is very evenly matched so it is hard to see a path for which team will win.
I believe the week 16 matchup with the Rams is very important in regards to the future of the team. If the 49ers lose, they secure at least the second pick in the 2017 draft and if the Cleveland Browns win, the 49ers will move into the first spot. With the 49ers playing on the road, against a Rams team looking to get Goff his first career NFL win, I think the Rams pull of a way to win a low scoring game.
