On April 11th, Barcelona will face Juventus in the Quarter-Finals of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League. The Spanish and Italian team last faced each other in the 2014/15 Champions League Final. Barcelona defeated Juventus (3-1), claiming their fifth Champions League title and second historic treble.
Although losing their last away game, Barcelona looked strong after defeating PSG in the Rounds of 16 and not losing a single game since their defeat against PSG in Paris. Neymar was rested for Barcelona’s away game against Deportivo La Coruña, and his absence was noticed. However, many people did not care for the defeat, including Barcelona defender Gerard Pique. “Depor were really good, but everyone connected to Barcelona would have signed up to come back against PSG and lose to Deportivo”, said the Spanish center back.
Juventus has not lost a single game since January 15 when they faced Fiorentina in their turf and lost 2-1. Massive Allegri and his men look strong and are definitely contenders for the Champions League title. The Italian team solid defense, midfield, and the offense can bring many problems to Barcelona.
Barcelona definitely has the better offense with Messi, Suarez, and Neymar. However, Juventus’ strikers are not to be diminished. Gonzalo Higuain has 19 goals in the Calcio A and Paulo Dybala has eight goals in the Calcio A. The Argentinians show an enormous threat in Juventus’ front, but they cannot be compared to the MSN.
Barcelona’s front three is probably the greatest attacking trio of all time. However, the attacking trio will have to face the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Medhi Benatia, Dani Alves, and Alex Sandro. Juventus definitely has a better midfield with Claudio Marchisio, Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Juan Cuadrado, Kwadwo Asamoah, and Stefano Sturaro. Sure, Barça has Iniesta, Rakitic, Busquets, Turan, Rafinha, Denis Suarez, and Andre Gomes. However, many of their performances have not been up to their level and Juventus can easily use that to their advantage. The Barcelona midfield must start truly showing what they are made of before facing the Italian Giants.
FC Barcelona vs. Juventus FC will definitely be a great game filled with a lot of action. Juventus enter the Quarter-Finals after defeating Porto (3-0). FC Barcelona enters the Quarter Finals after clinching a spot in the 90+5 minute of the second leg, defeating PSG (6-5). These European Giants will give it their all as they will face each other in one of the best Quarter Finals the Champions League has seen in a while.
Barcelona visits Juventus Stadium in the second week of April for the first leg of the Quarter-Finals. Will Barcelona be able to demonstrate they deserved their spot in the Quarter-Finals? Will Juventus show why they are a force to be reckoned with? We will find out on April 11.
