The UNC Asheville Bulldogs clinched the Big South Conference regular-season title with an exciting 88-62 win over Radford Saturday evening at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs will host the quarterfinals and semifinals of the BSC tournament, and, should they advance, would host the finals. The win guarantees the Bulldogs a place in either the NCAA Tournament of the National Invitational Tourney.

UNC Asheville (10-6, 5-0 BSC) is finding that playing in their new arena is as much fun as it is for the fans. Saturday evening, the Bulldogs crushed Big South Conference foe Liberty, 98-75, and senior J.P. Primm continued to set records. UNC Asheville won its fourth consecutive Big South Conference game, defeating VMI, 94-85, at Kimmel Arena Thursday evening. Senior leadership was the difference in the game, as Matt Dickey (23 points), J.P. Primm (21 points) and Chris Stephenson (17 points) showed the underclassmen how to win a game. Jeremy Atkinson (16 points) and Trent Meyer (10 points) helped the cause.
UNC Asheville, lead by senior Chris Stephenson’s career-high 33 points and ten rebounds, defeated Big South foe Radford Monday night, 66-56, in the Dedmon Center on Radford’s campus. Head coach Eddie Biedenbach moved to the top of the list as Asheville’s winningest head coach with the win. He now has 224 victories as the Bulldogs head coach, and passed Bob Hartman for that honor. Senior J.P. Primm dished out three assists to pass K.J. Garland and became the school’s all-time leader with 521 assists. Asheville is now 3-0 in Big South Conference play, all of which have come on the road. They play VMI at home in the Kimmel Arena Thursday night and look to win their first league game in the new arena.
UNC Asheville scored its second Big South Conference win in two tries, beating Winthrop, at Rock Hill, SC, in overtime, 73-68. Matt Dickey scored seven of his 18 points in the overtime period, and freshman Keith Hornsby’s three-point shot with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation, got them to overtime. It was coach Eddie Biedebach’s 223rd win as Asheville’s coach, tying him with Bob Hartman as the winningest coach in school history.
UNC Asheville’s men’s basketball team lost to mountain rival Western Carolina Wednesday night, 87-67. Asheville fell to 6-6 on the season, suffering their second-consecutive loss. The Bulldogs now head to Winthrop on New Year’s Eve, to resume their Big South Conference play.
