New Orleans Saints Week 16 Recap: South Clinched, Marino Bested

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans Saints

New Orleans went on to light up the Falcons to the tune of a 45-16 victory that not only cemented the Saints as Champions of the NFC South and at least the number 3 seed in the NFC, but also celebrated Drew Brees as the new single season passing record holder over Dan Marino from 27 years ago.

Despite starting the game with several key mistakes that gave away points, albeit field goals and not touchdowns at least, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints’ defense played a spectacular game to make it all right in the end with a 42-20 win over the Vikings on the road in Minneapolis.

Even without the services of the team’s leading rusher in Mark Ingram, out for the second game in a row this weekend with a turf toe injury he suffered late in the Lions game two weeks ago, the New Orleans Saints have still been running the ball very effectively as they head toward the eventual playoff stretch. In Ingram’s absence, they have used RB Chris Ivory as the short-yardage and change-up back and it paid dividends last weekend with Ivory leading all three Saints running backs (Ivory, Thomas and Sproles) with 53 yards on 13 carries from scrimmage.

The NFC Playoff Race

Can Brees get the Saints back to the Super Bowl?

Unlike in the AFC, the NFC playoff picture is falling very nicely into place with 3 weeks left in the season.  With the Bears in freefall and the Cowboys being the Cowboys, the NFC playoff picture has become very simple, very fast.  The Packers, Saints, 49ers, and Falcons are locks or close thereto, the Lions control [...]

Going into the fourth quarter, New Orleans Saints’ QB Drew Brees would silence the Tennessee faithful in the crowd and send many of them on an early mass-exodus from the stadium with a high deep pass 35 yards down the middle of the field to WR Marques Colston 12 for the touchdown.

New Orleans Saints Week 14 Pregame: Saints @ Tennessee Titans

Jimmy Graham of the New Orleans Saints vs Tennessee in preseason this year.

The New Orleans Saints can clinch the division title in the NFC South with a win over in Tennessee as well as help from the 3 point road favorite Falcons if they were to lose to the 4-8 Carolina Panthers in Charlotte this Sunday. If the Falcons loss doesn’t happen, the Saints can still clinch at least a wild card playoff spot this weekend with a win over the Titans along with either a week 14 loss by the 7-5 Chicago Bears (at the Denver Broncos) or the 7-5 Detroit Lions (versus the Minnesota Vikings).

New Orleans Saints Week 13 Recap: Lions Implode; Saints March On

Drew Brees

The New Orleans Saints improved their record to 9-3 on a 4 game winning streak and grabbed a solid hold of the lead in the NFC South by 2 whole games over the 7-5 Atlanta Falcons, who lost yesterday in Houston to the 9-3 Texans.

I thought about the fact that the 8-3 New Orleans Saints are undefeated so far this season at home and on a 3-game winning streak and taking 4 out of their last 5 game decisions, after having dropped that shocker of a loss to those lowly 2-9 St Louis Rams.
